I know that some characters can't prospect, and don't do much building
or many trade runs, so to compensate for this, if you reach double
the XP goal for a promotion, but don't have the ore, trade or manu
contribution, you will still be promoted and still be eligible for
everything that promotion entails. Upon reaching Rank 5 you will
recieve 500,000 credits, and it gets better. When you are promoted
to Rank 8 you will receive 5,000,000 in "Item vouchers" meaning
you can put 5 mil toward the sale price of anything I build, or
you will get 2,500,000 credits, your choice. Also at Rank 8 you
will have the option to take over some guild functions if you desire.
On occasion I will also promote someone because they went beyond
the call of duty and earned the promotion.
